I came here with a large group of 8 for my birthday, and we were seated promptly at the reservation time upstairs. Hen Quarter has an intimate, cozy feel to it, with plenty of space in between tables and a bar that had almost every seat filled. Once upstairs, our waitress took our drink and appetizer orders very quickly. I highly recommend Hen Quarter's take on the Mint Julep...so good and refreshing!
The food was very good, from the deviled eggs (with a piece of bacon on top) to the fried chicken and catfish. I am very picky about my macaroni and cheese, so I was pleased to see that it was baked to perfection. They were able to accommodate my birthday cake and gave me a cute little birthday card signed by the staff at the end of my meal! I'm looking forward to a return trip here. -

Review is of Sunday Brunch:
Very limited options outside the breakfast buffet. More than 2/3 of the menu is listing the buffet or are upcharge entrees only available if you already purchased the $30 buffet.
Of the 5 non-buffet options, only 2 are breakfast food and both of those are overpriced egg plates. $14 for a dry, 2-egg omelette and cold potatoes is a travesty. Sadly, chain diners like IHOP/Denny's offer a better value for similar or higher-quality breakfast food.
My partner's chicken and waffles were better and were at least served hot. I hope that dinner is better, because breakfast here seems to be an after-thought.
Service was good and coffee was ok, but 'mediocre' is the best word to describe the experience. -

Great location and outdoor space which is perfect for people watching. The menu looked so good with all the things one would want to have for brunch.
Wanted to love this place but everything was honestly just ok, service, food, coffee. Place has lots of potential but falls short because of little things that are being overlooked. -

I came here on a Sunday for a late brunch on a whim. I was desperately craving some good breakfast but all the recommended places in Alexandria were packed or I didn't like the menu. Hen Quarter was busy, busy I was able to walk in and get seated. I was also excited to try their menu more specifically the chicken and waffles because of the Tennessee bourbon syrup and the corn and scallion waffle. It was very delicious! Everything was flavored so well and the serving size was huge. I wasn't able to finish my meal and I was stuffed. I also loved the customer service while there. Everyone was super friendly. Id recommend this place as an excellent brunch spot. But because of how busy old town can get on the weekends I'd highly suggest calling ahead to make a reservation or seeing the wait time.

The watermelon lemonade was pure artificial flavor. The pork belly was so fat and ugly cut that looked nothing like what I saw in reviews. And the worst fried chicken and grilled chicken ever. What's more, the place was not even clean, with visible bread crumbs on the floor and stains on the table, I felt uneasy to use the napkin.
